What’s Ultra-Precision Coining?

Ultra precision coining is precision metal stamping in one of its most complex forms. This method is used for components that need extremely fine accuracy in machining. With the slant in technology or smaller and tinier gadgets, the precision metal stamping needs to adjust to come up with micro-parts. In a recent study done by Korean students, they wanted to find out how software technology could help tool engineers work on micro components. Using the FEM simulation, 3D unigraphics, and ultra precision machines, their goal was to make it possible to minimize manufacturing costs in creating micro dies.
The computer assisted software allowed them to put the design into simulated mode so that no wastes were made as far as metal was concerned. With metal turning into such a precious commodity because of the demand, this study will enable companies to decrease wastage and increase optimum profits.
Without going into too many complex explanations, the students found out that through simulation, they were able to reduce spring back issues and control the thickness of the component. Their research helped introduce new avenues for metal press companies to use and be more technologically advanced through the use of the computers. Of course, many of the top firms in metal pressing and stamping are already using computer software and technology. It’s the only way they can accept ultra precision jobs with full confidence in being able to deliver the goods.
